Congratulations to the D250 Award Winners
Tuesday, December 16th, 2008On December 14th, 6 members of our community were awarded Democracy 250 (D250) medals for making outstanding contributions to the cultural, social and ecological well-being of our community. The D250 initiative has been established to commemorate Nova Scotia’s pioneering role in electing Canada’s first “representative” government in 1758. A limited number of D250 medals have been awarded to individuals and groups that embody the finest qualities of active citizenship, leadership or community service.
We assigned the very challenging task of sorting through the numerous community-initiated nominations to Judges Bernard Smith, Executive Director of the Spring Garden Area Merchants’ Association, Sister Teresa Chu, and Sophia Horwitz, from Dalhousie University’s Cities and Environment Unit.
And the winners are……
-Alan Ruffman
-Ron Colman
-Pamela Harrison
-Hugo Dann
-Karen McKendry
-Mel Boutilier
Thank you to the winners for all of their hard work towards making Halifax Citadel-Sable Island a better place to live and work. Also, thank you to the numerous supporters of these and the other nominations who were put forward for their honourable contributions to our community.
