The Halifax Citadel–Sable Island D250 Medal: Call for Nominations

Is there an individual or group in our community that you think should be publicly recognized for making an outstanding contribution to the cultural, economic or ecological well-being of our community? If so, please consider nominating that person or group for the Halifax Citadel-Sable Island Democracy 250 Medal.
The Democracy 250 (D250) initiative has been established to commemorate Nova Scotia’s pioneering role in electing Canada’s first “representative” government in 1758 (for more information go to www.democracy250.ca). In keeping with the spirit of this celebration of our democratic pioneers, Leonard Preyra (MLA for Halifax Citadel-Sable Island) will award D250 medals to six (6) individuals or groups that have made a difference in the life of his constituency and who embody the finest qualities of active citizenship, leadership or community service. Any individual or group that meets this criterion, who lives or works in Leonard Preyra’s constituency (for electoral boundaries go to www.preyra.ca), or whose work enhances the lives of those living in Halifax Citadel-Sable Island is eligible for nomination.
What do D250 Award Recipients receive?
At a formal ceremony on December 14th 2008 the D250 award recipients will be presented with a specially commissioned D250 medal and a certificate signed by the D250 Co-Chairs, former Premiers John Hamm and Russell MacClellan.
How are recipients chosen?
An independent group, The D250 Medal Advisory Committee, will consider all applications and recommend 6 individuals or organizations for the Award.
